The need for business coaching has never been greater than it is today, but business owners, just like everyone in the throes of this recession, are less willing to spend their money because of fear and uncertainty.

If we look closer at people’s spending habits in this recession, as well as the ways business coaching helps generates profits and cash flow, we can see that assuaging these fears is as easy as showing perspective clients the real numbers.

First, let’s take a look at overall spending in these troubled times.

From 2003 through 2007, the rate of spending growth in the United States increased by 14 percent, but from 2007 to 2011, that rate slowed to just three percent.

People are making tough decision every day about where and how to spend their money and they are saving more than in the past.

When unemployment was less than five percent in 2007, Americans were saving less than two percent of their income, but today that rate is over five percent.

Still, people are spending money somewhere and when you look closer it’s interesting to see where.

For instance, spending on higher education is up six percent, which is a sign that people are looking to invest in their future.

So what does this mean for business coaching?

Recessions are times when everyone needs to make tough decisions and prioritize their needs.

If you can position your business as the answer to the problems, and as an investment that pays off, you can thrive during a recession.

A couple of recent studies have shown evidence of the power of business coaching, and in this recession, there has never been a more important and necessary time for business coaching.

Businesses that are coached show a return of $7.50 for every dollar spent and 74% of ActionCOACH coached businesses increased sales last year compared to only 43% of non-coached businesses.

Also, coached businesses have enjoyed a 30 percent average annual sales growth, compared to only 13% in non-coached businesses. Finally, 53% of ActionCOACH coached businesses increased profits last year compared to only 35% of non-coached businesses.

With all of these numbers, it’s easy to see that working with an ActionCOACH Business Coach is an investment that every business should make.
